Peaches and Gnats

One of the things I love most about the South is that the produce season is long and abundant. I'm all for local, in season fruits and veggies. They are usually the best bang for your buck in both price and nutrients. Not to mention decreasing our carbon footprint and they just taste better! So this week, we took a spontaneous trip to Burton Brooks Orchard in Barney. If you blink, you will miss this little town. I'm not even sure there was a traffic light at all.  But surprisingly, there are two roadside farmsteads that aim to lure passerby's in  with the promise of fresh, homemade peach ice cream.  and I'm sold... As was everyone else obviously. There was quite a crowd.  Including a school bus that pulled up after us... just in time.  Almost all the picnic tables were full and we had plenty of conversations with others  just dropping in to grab a cool treat and a peck of peaches.  And a random barn kit...
